Every Month Is Black History Month
Hello & Grand Rising!
It’s Black History Month.
This is the month where we celebrate the advancements of African Americans & ignore the struggle while elevating the only two heroes in the Civil Rights Movement - Rosa Parks & Martin Luther King Jr. I have learned more about history being out of school than when I was in. It’s so obvious to me the agenda includes keeping the most vital information excluded. Why have the same stories been told decade after decade again as if there has been no progress - as if there has been enough. The Black Lives Matter movement really woke me up in a big way. I wasn’t around/awake/aware of the other big waves of protests in my life. I wasn’t aware of the other side and how they stood in such large opposition of the way I had lived my life for so long. I didn’t realize the extend of systematic racism or the depths in which it soaks into the fabric of our society. I’m beginning to understand now and it’s devastating. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is privilege. Selected ignorance is violence. If people are not helping they are hurting. Period. Exclamation. No question. That’s on cap. There’s no excuse not to be aware. It’s Black History Month this month & EVERY MONTH. I’m Black today and everyday and that’s how often it effects my life.
